ABOUT GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL INDONESIA
Building a greener future for all.
Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI) is an independent, non-profit organization leading the transformation towards a more sustainable built environment in Indonesia.
Since 2009, we have brought together industry professionals, businesses, government institutions, communities, and future leaders to advance green building practices and make sustainable development more accessible and impactful.
We believe that buildings can do more than provide spaces for people to live, work, and connect. They can use resources more responsibly, support health and well-being, respond to their environment, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Through knowledge, standards, certification, and collaboration, GBCI works to drive meaningful change across Indonesia's building sector.
Our Vision
We envision a future where buildings and communities are designed, built, and operated with sustainability at their core, supporting people, responding to environmental challenges, and creating lasting value for generations to come.
Our Mission
Our mission is to transform the market and accelerate the adoption of green building principles across Indonesia's building industry.
We do this by building awareness, strengthening knowledge and capacity, developing credible standards, supporting the implementation of sustainable practices, and creating opportunities for collaboration.
GBCI brings together different parts of the building ecosystem because meaningful transformation cannot happen through one organization or one sector alone.
It requires shared knowledge, collective action, and a long-term commitment to building better.
What We Do
GBCI works to advance green building through four interconnected areas
-
Market Transformation
We work to encourage the building sector to adopt more sustainable practices and recognize the long-term value of better buildings.
By engaging decision makers, industry leaders, and stakeholders across the value chain, we help make green building part of the conversation around Indonesia's development, competitiveness, and future.
-
Education & Training
Knowledge is essential to transformation.
Through training, education, and knowledge-sharing initiatives, GBCI helps professionals and future leaders develop the understanding and skills needed to contribute to a more sustainable built environment.
Our programmes support people at different stages of their green building journey, from foundational learning to professional development.
-
Green Building Certification
We develop and promote GREENSHIP, Indonesia's green building rating system.
GREENSHIP provides a framework for assessing and encouraging better building practices based on Indonesia's environmental conditions, regulations, and industry context.
GBCI also works with independent organizations and international partners to support the wider adoption of green building certification in Indonesia.
-
Collaboration & Collective Action
Transforming the built environment requires collaboration.
GBCI works with organizations, institutions, professionals, communities, and other stakeholders to develop initiatives that support the growth of green building and sustainable development.
By bringing different perspectives and expertise together, we aim to create greater impact than any organization could achieve alone.
Part of a Global Movement
GBCI is an established member of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), connecting Indonesia to a global network of green building councils and organizations working to advance sustainable built environments worldwide.
As Indonesia's green building council within this global movement, GBCI participates in international knowledge exchange, collaborative initiatives, and discussions that help shape the future of the built environment.
This global connection strengthens our work in Indonesia while allowing us to share Indonesia's perspectives and experiences with the international green building community. It also supports the exchange of knowledge and ideas that can help accelerate the development of a more sustainable, low-carbon, healthy, and resilient built environment.
The People Behind the Movement
Behind GBCI is a team of individuals who share a common belief in the power of green buildings to create a more sustainable future.
Bringing together diverse backgrounds, expertise, and experiences, our people are united by a shared commitment to advancing green building practices and driving positive change across Indonesia's built environment.
Together, they bring GBCI's mission to life through their knowledge, dedication, and collective efforts.
Our Representatives
Across Indonesia, every region has its own climate, landscape, communities, and way of life. These differences shape how buildings are designed, built, and experienced.
Recognizing this diversity, GBCI's movement reaches across the archipelago, bringing people and local perspectives together to advance a greener built environment throughout Indonesia.
Our representatives help connect local communities with the wider green building movement, creating opportunities for collaboration and encouraging more people to take part in sustainable transformation.
Our Partners
Meaningful transformation requires collective action.
GBCI collaborates with organizations across sectors to expand knowledge, strengthen capacity, support innovation, and accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices in Indonesia's built environment.
Our partners bring different expertise, perspectives, and resources to the movement.
Together, we work towards a shared goal: creating a more sustainable future through better buildings.
