Why Sydney?
Sydney is a leading example in the Asia Pacific region for transforming existing and heritage buildings into high-performance, low-carbon assets. Supported by strong policy frameworks and Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), the city demonstrates how adaptive reuse and retrofitting can achieve sustainability outcomes, including high Green Star ratings. Sydney offers practical, built examples where sustainability, heritage, and commercial viability successfully coexist.
Why “Second Lives for Building”?
In Indonesia, the majority of buildings are existing assets, built before sustainability standards were widely adopted. Demolition and rebuild approaches are carbon-intensive and often impractical. Adaptive reuse and retrofitting provide a realistic and scalable pathway to reduce emissions, extend building life cycles, and support Indonesia’s Net Zero ambitions, while preserving economic and cultural value. Learning from Sydney equips Indonesian practitioners with transferable strategies to transform existing buildings into sustainable, resilient spaces.
Leadership Course - Sydney aims to:
➔ Build Practical understanding of how existing and heritage buildings can be transformed into high performance, low-carbon assets.
➔ Share real-word strategies for improving energy efficiency, operational performance, and occupant well being in existing buildings.
➔ Demonstrate how sustainability frameworks and certification support market transformation.
