President Joko Widodo officially inaugurated the Batang Industrial Area (KIT Batang) on Friday, July 26 2024, marking a significant milestone in Indonesia's journey towards sustainable development. Green Building Council Indonesia (GBC Indonesia) proudly announces that PT KITB has achieved the prestigious GREENSHIP Neighborhood Plan certification for Grand Batang City, positioning it as a model of an environmentally friendly industrial area.

President Widodo, during the inauguration, emphasized the importance of agile decision-making in the face of global challenges. He highlighted how Indonesia has navigated through the turbulent waters of trade wars and the COVID-19 pandemic, emerging stronger and more competitive. The nation's work competitive index has impressively risen to rank 27, bolstered by improved performance across economic, governmental, and infrastructural indicators.

The 14 trillion rupiah investment in KITB has already created nearly 19,000 jobs, with an ambitious target of 250,000 jobs over the next decade. This progress exemplifies the project's potential to significantly boost Indonesia's economy while adhering to sustainable practices.

GBC Indonesia is delighted to be part of a project that positions Grand Batang City as a model of an environmentally friendly industrial area. The city implements various sustainability principles, including energy conversion, replanting natural vegetation, surface water utilization, and wastewater management. This approach justifies Grand Batang City's designation as an Eco Industrial Park.

The project's "Smart and Sustainable" ethos is evident in its meticulous planning. From the rigorous selection of environmentally friendly tenants to the implementation of smart waste management systems, every aspect of Grand Batang City is designed to harmonize industrial growth with ecological preservation.

Connectivity is a key strength of the development. With access to toll roads, railways, and proximity to air transport, Grand Batang City is set to become a hub of efficient logistics. The planned jetty terminal for sea freight will further enhance its connectivity, although the main port is still in development.

The project also demonstrates a commitment to social sustainability. The Ministry of Public Works and Housing's construction of 10 residential towers ensures comfortable living spaces for workers. Moreover, KITB's support for local MSMEs reflects its dedication to fostering inclusive economic growth.

Looking ahead, the imminent construction of cathode and anode industries, beginning in August and September respectively, will further cement Grand Batang City's position as a cutting-edge industrial zone. These developments, part of the LG Group's car battery ecosystem, highlight the area's potential to attract high-tech, forward-thinking industries.

President Widodo's call for active marketing of this area underscores the government's commitment to its success. As we move forward, GBC Indonesia remains dedicated to supporting this visionary project, ensuring that Grand Batang City continues to set new standards in sustainable industrial development.

This landmark development not only showcases Indonesia's capacity for innovative, sustainable growth but also positions the nation as a leader in eco-friendly industrial practices on the global stage. As we celebrate this achievement, we look forward to the continued evolution of Grand Batang City as a model for future sustainable development projects worldwide.
