Jakarta, December 19, 2023 — Climate change, air pollution, resource depletion, and waste management are pressing issues surrounding us. By signing the Paris Agreement among other nations, Indonesia has committed to achieving Net Zero Emission by 2050.
To realize this goal, active participation from various sectors—government, corporations, academia, communities, and media—is essential to collaborate in reducing environmental impacts. Unfortunately, many are unaware that the building and construction sector significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 40% of total carbon emissions. Hence, the Green Building Council (GBC) Indonesia, an established member of the World Green Building Council, has undertaken initiatives such as public education, the development of green building assessment tools, and continues to advocate for massive sustainability movements in green building aspects.
On December 19, 2023, at Soehanna Hall, GBC Indonesia hosted its annual event, the GREENSHIP Gala, with the theme, "Celebrating Innovation and Dedication Towards Indonesia's Net Zero Emission 2060" aiming to raise awareness about Green Buildings among various stakeholders.
A highlight of the GREENSHIP Gala was the GBCIdeas Main Show 2023, open to the public, offering a platform for individuals to engage directly and draw inspiration from revolutionary ideas under the theme "Net Zero Mini Residential Cluster" presented by participants. Esteemed judges including Mr. Jeff Oatman, Chair of the Asia Pacific Network World Green Building Council; Mr. Prasetyoadi, Managing Director of PDW; and Mr. Andre Jonathan, Operational Director of PT. ASDI, evaluated and critiqued finalists after a rigorous bootcamp. For the result, COMUNITREE clinched the first position, followed by Sielti Wellbeing and GreenNest securing second and third positions, respectively.
At this event, GBC Indonesia also launched two new green building assessment tools: "GREENSHIP Data Center" and "Net Zero Application." The GREENSHIP Data Center has the opportunity to collaborate directly with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), designating the National Data Center project as a pilot initiative for the new assessment tool. Following a stringent evaluation involving experts, scientists, and practitioners, the National Data Center project achieved the GREENSHIP Data Center Platinum certification, setting a new benchmark for sustainable development in Indonesia.
Celebrating this monumental achievement, the GREENSHIP Gala featured a proud moment: the presentation of the GREENSHIP Design Recognition Data Center certificate to representatives from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, including Ibu Vidia Utami Fariinzi and Mr. Dhanang Sutawijaya, alongside Ibu Sukainah Husein, Project Director of PT. Ellipse Projects Indonesia. The ceremony concluded with remarks from Ibu Sukainah.
Subsequent to the certificate presentation and a brief on the GREENSHIP Data Center, the GREENSHIP Gala witnessed the soft-launch of the GREENSHIP Net Zero Application presented by Mr. Iwan Prijanto, Chairman of GBC Indonesia, aiming to advance the journey towards achieving Net Zero Emission by 2050.
The GREENSHIP Gala culminated with the GREENSHIP Award, recognizing individuals and organizations demonstrating outstanding commitment and achievements in advancing green building concepts in Indonesia.
