Yogyakarta, 14 September 2026 — Advancing green building practices in Indonesia requires more than the adoption of standards and technologies. Strengthening professional capacity, sharing knowledge, and fostering collaboration among professional organizations, universities, industry, and communities are equally important to ensure that sustainability principles can be applied more widely and effectively across different regional contexts.
As a professional organization advancing sustainable building practices in Indonesia, Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI) continues to strengthen its role in building this ecosystem. Its efforts include knowledge development, certification, training, and collaboration with stakeholders involved in the planning, construction, and management of the built environment.
This commitment was reflected in the Indonesia Green Building Festival (IGBF) 2026: Yogyakarta Chapter, held on Monday, 14 September 2026, at Campus III of Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY). Under the theme “The Role of GBCI in Advancing Green Building Practices in Indonesia,” the event brought together stakeholders to explore how collaboration can strengthen the implementation of green building practices in Indonesia, including by reinforcing GBCI’s role at the regional level.
“Green building practices require the involvement of many different stakeholders. GBCI’s role is to build bridges between knowledge, practice, and stakeholders so that green building implementation can continue to grow and create broader impact,” said Ar. Daud Tjondrorahardja, MBA., D. Div., IAI., GP., Chairperson of GBCI Yogyakarta.
IGBF Yogyakarta Chapter opened with remarks from Ar. Daud Tjondrorahardja, MBA., D. Div., IAI., GP., Chairperson of GBCI Yogyakarta; Dr. Ir. Desiderius Viby Indrayana, S.T., M.M., M.T., IPU, Chairperson of the Central Board of Kamajaya; and Dr. G. Sri Nurhartanto, S.H., LL.M., Rector of Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta.
The opening session was followed by the official launch of IGBF 2026 Yogyakarta Chapter by the Chairperson of GBCI Yogyakarta.
Strengthening Regional Collaboration Through Three MoUs
One of the key agendas of the event was the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), strengthening GBCI’s collaborative network in Yogyakarta. The agreements established cooperation between GBCI and Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY), GBCI Yogyakarta and Kamajaya, and GBCI Yogyakarta and P3SM.
These collaborations provide a foundation for expanding cooperation in knowledge development, capacity building, and green building practices, while bringing together expertise from different sectors to support a more sustainable built environment.
Universities play an important role in strengthening this ecosystem. Through collaboration with educational institutions, knowledge and practical approaches to green building can continue to be exchanged while being introduced to the next generation of professionals who will shape the future of the built environment.
Connecting Industry, Academia, and Practice
Beyond its collaboration agenda, IGBF Yogyakarta Chapter featured knowledge-sharing sessions that brought together perspectives from industry, academia, and professional practice.
The program began with a Product Information Session by Saint-Gobain, providing participants with information on products and solutions relevant to sustainable building and construction needs.
The program continued with a talkshow and Q&A session featuring Arief Sutanto, Concrete Technology & QA-QC Manager, PT Solusi Bangun Beton, and Dr. Ir. Agustinus Djoko Istiadji, M.Sc., BidSc., Lecturer in Architectural Engineering at Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, moderated by Ar. Nicolaus Nino Ardhiansyah, M.Sc., IAI.
The discussion explored green building practices from a broader perspective, ranging from developments and applications of construction technologies and materials to academic perspectives on design and the built environment. The session provided an opportunity to examine how green building principles can be translated into practice, as well as the challenges that industry professionals and other stakeholders need to address.
The program continued with a Product Information Session by Kresna Karya Teknologi, introducing participants to products and solutions as part of the exchange of information on technological developments that can support more sustainable building practices.
Through these sessions, IGBF Yogyakarta Chapter served not only as a platform for discussing green buildings, but also as a space for connecting the different actors involved in advancing sustainable building practices, from professional organizations and academia to industry and communities.
Strengthening Green Building Practices Through Regional Networks
The Yogyakarta Chapter is part of the Indonesia Green Building Festival (IGBF) 2026, GBCI’s month-long series of activities throughout September 2026 involving stakeholders and communities across different regions of Indonesia.
A regional approach is important because green building implementation needs to take into account the specific characteristics, needs, capacities, and opportunities of each area. By strengthening local networks, knowledge and green building practices can grow through collaboration that is closer to the professionals, institutions, and communities working in each region.
Through IGBF 2026, GBCI continues to encourage cross-sector collaboration to strengthen Indonesia’s green building ecosystem and expand access to knowledge, practical approaches, and collaboration opportunities that can contribute to sustainable development.
